NVIDIA to Acquire Arm for $40 Billion
NVIDIA and SoftBank Group Corp. (SBG) today announced a definitive agreement under which NVIDIA will acquire Arm Limited from SBG and the SoftBank Vision Fund (together, “SoftBank”) in a transaction valued at $40 billion. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to NVIDIA’s non-GAAP gross margin and non-GAAP earnings per share.
Rumors of Nvidia nearing a deal with Softbank to acquire Arm started circulating in July. NVIDIA finally announced its acquisition of Arm on Sept 13. Undoubtedly, Arm’s vast ecosystem will help NVIDIA with its AI research and accelerate innovations. With Arm-based processors, it can build state-of-the-art supercomputers culminating in improved medical research, health care services, self driving cars and many more. Arm will remain headquartered in Cambridge and apparently NVIDIA plans to build a world class AI research facility by expanding on this site.
“AI is the most powerful technology force of our time and has launched a new wave of computing,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA
